Introducing the new ‘Concept Kits’
I was first introduced to the term ‘Concept Cards’ when my hubby took up card crafting. It is the term used for cards that are a little bit unusual, innovative or showcase a specific technique. The word itself is actually defined as ‘an abstract idea’ which I thought would be perfect the term for my new designs. These Kits are quite unlike any I have produced before and I must confess it is my interest in my hubby’s newfound paper crafting that led me to the joys of Mixed Media and Scrapbooking but of course for me, the exploration had to be translated into fabric and stitch.
My kits thus far have given so many the foundations of ’good’ embroidery practices and I am so delighted that so many hanker for every newly released kit and have become true ’Maggie Gee’ fans. Yet for a long time I have wanted to develop something a little less formal for every one of every skill level.
It was whilst watching a paper painting demonstration on television that I said ‘I’ve got a whole set of those colours somewhere!’ and a quick rummage to the deepest, darkest back of a cupboard proved this was the case. The results were an experiment that when shared, everyone including my regulars wanted! Every piece I have produced is different and therefore every piece produced by you will be completely unique. The process has no specific name or style and it was then that I came up with the idea of producing ’Concept Sewing Kits’ ; Kits that I give you the basis on which to do your own thing but get the opportunity to have a play.
Although I give you patterns to follow, it is up to you where you place your colour or add as little or more embellishment and stitch as you wish. The fabric given is big enough to make a small cushion or purse. In the spirit of recycling I have some lovely vintage velvet backing (or purse lining) & envelope cushion instructions available. Just have fun and let your creativity wander!
Kits are available on the web site with the option to choose them with or without threads.
