A Bit About Me

Hello I’m Mags and I am the designer and embroiderer behind Maggie Gee Needlework. I  assemble my kits at my studio on the Isle of Wight in the UK.  I am very proud of the Five Star/100% Feedback I have achieved on the platforms I have sold from since 2o13 but from 2017 launched my very own independent web site!

Inspired by vintage and retro embroidery, my designs give a modern interpretation to classic designs. I use beads, sequins and spectacular DMC threads of varied colours and weights and top quality Irish linen. All pre-transferred with the pattern, my kits encompass many and varied embroidery stitches and techniques and are suitable for the very novice embroiderer to those who want more challenging projects.

Maggie Gee needlework kits are not only known for their originality but for their clarity. The instructions undergo rigorous testing – I sew all of my designs and photograph and make notes along the way in order to bring you the very best set of directions. My ethos is ‘If you can read, you can embroider!'. My detailed written instructions include diagrams and step by step photographs. They are friendly, fun and are as effective as being taught face to face.

My business is founded on precise ethics of friendliness and approachability; I make sure I am available via the chat facility here, e-mail or instant Facebook messaging to help with any questions you may have whilst working your kit. Likewise if you have any mishaps, run out of thread or beads or even loose a needle, I’m there to help. From describing the kits, providing a secure and simple payment system to being available to answer questions and offer advice I work very hard and am completely dedicated to making my customers as happy as possible with their products and experience.

Embroidery is the most creative, fulfilling, calming and confidence building hobby and from recovering from illness or alleviating stress to simply creating something truly beautiful my needlework kits aim to provide the perfect platform to experiment with a new craft and give the confidence to progress to different levels.

My aim for Maggie Gee Needlework is to pass on my passion for embroidery and produce needlework kits to inspire and treasure as well as create new embroiders who will pass the art on for generations to come.

My Background

From the age of 21 I taught myself to make clothes on the basis of a single needlework lesson at school! I enjoyed needlepoint and cross stitch yet it wasn't until I owned my needlework shop that I was inspired to learn embroidery. I am predominantly self-taught myself via the wonderful ‘Inspirations’ publications which I have collected from the first issue and my vast collection of antique needlework books. I graduated with an Honours Degree in Humanities from the Open University when I was 34 and my devotion to cultural history and design runs through my work which is inspired by Vintage embroidery patterns. My teaching style comes from the fact that embroidery has been an art I have had to work hard at and for this reason I am passionate about making my instructions super clear (I will often make sure I show stitches from differing angles or how to actually start and finish a stitch which can often be as baffling as mastering the stitch itself!)

Nothing gives me more pleasure than seeing my kits finished by delighted customers and to be on hand to encourage the less confident achieve something they never thought possible proving that when taught with patience and encouragement even the most inexperienced person can achieve remarkable pieces of embroidered  work.
